FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a man was shot and killed during a youth football practice at a Fort Lauderdale park.

Local news outlets report that police say the shooting happened Thursday night at Mills Pond Park.

Police say dozens of children were on the field when shots rang out in the parking lot around 8:45 p.m.

The victim, who police say had coached youth sports at the park in the past, was struck multiple times by gunfire and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured.

Detective Tracy Figone couldn’t confirm whether the victim was working as a coach Thursday night.

Figone says police are searching for the shooter. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
