ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Attorneys for Congressman David Jolly sent out cease and desist letters to all Tampa Bay area television stations on Wednesday after an ad, produced by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee was released on Tuesday night.
Jolly tells News Channel 8 that the ad, which features pictures of Jolly and Donald Trump together on multiple occasions, was altered using the photo editing program Photoshop.
“In the reading of the law as our elections law attorney sees it, simply saying dramatization is not sufficient for a false image. And this is where the false imagery denotes a false message that crosses the line. I looked for the disclaimer as well, I saw it,” said Jolly on Wednesday afternoon.
“The fact is the only photos with Donald Trump they could find are photos of Donald Trump and Charlie Crist, not Donald Trump and David Jolly. So they had to make them and in making them up and Photoshopping my head on another person’s body, they’ve crossed a false image line,” said Jolly.
Adding to the urgency to distance himself from Donald Trump, are the Trump tapes released Friday in which lewd terms were used to describe women.
“I’ve never supported him. I was one of the first people in the country to translate what he said on that bus to sexual assault. I said any candidate that boasts about sexual assault isn’t qualified to be president. Where was Charlie Crist?,” added Jolly.
Although Charlie Crist wasn’t available for an interview, Crist’s campaign spokesman Kevin Cate said, “While Governor Crist long ago denounced Donald Trump, only David Jolly has recently said he ‘has a lot of respect for Trump’ and supports his extreme agenda on women’s choice.”
