Officials: Pedestrian struck, killed by garbage truck in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Sarasota.

The Herald-Tribune reports that 57-year-old Jeffery Unger was pronounced dead at the scene Monday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Unger was attempting to cross a street when a Sarasota County Waste Management truck hit him. The FHP report says the truck had the right of way.
