RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WFLA) – A man is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his live-in girlfriend in September, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
HCSO detectives say, Thomas Elmore Jr., 43, contacted law enforcement, through his attorney and reported that he had found his live-in girlfriend, Tamara Naish, dead from a gunshot wound.
They lived in a home in the 9400 block of Star Gazer Lane. Elmore said he found her about 24 hours prior but was too upset and did not know what to do.
His attorney told him law enforcement needed to be notified. Detectives said he didn’t make any other statements at that time.
HCSO detectives went to the home and found Naish dead in the house. Later the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to exam the victim. ME officials said she had been dead for at least 36 hours.
During the investigation detectives discovered that the victim’s body had been moved and ‘manipulated,’ according to the HCSO report. Evidence detectives found at the scene was inconsistent with a suicide.
Two days later Elmore provided a statement under oath. He said that the day Naish died he came back home around 1 a.m. from a local Hooter’s. The couple got into an argument about the woman’s recent job loss and money issues. Elmore said the woman kicked his dog during the argument and that’s when he decided to leave and take his dog to his parents’ home in Seffner. He said when he came back he found the woman dead in the master bathroom.
Elmer stated she was lying on her back with one of his pistols in her left hand. He checked her pulse and noted she was deceased, but he did not know what to do and did not call 911.
According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, Naish’s gunshot wounds are not self-inflicted. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Thomas Elmore was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
According to the Florida Healthcare Professional’s website, Elmore was a registered paramedic.
He has been arrested several times in Hillsborough County for domestic violence, DUI, trespassing and on other charges.
