VIDEO: Emergency services suspended as Matthew lashes Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – On Friday morning, the outer bands of the eye of Hurricane Matthew were moving closer to Daytona Beach.

WFLA News Channel 8 Reporter Ryan has been covering the storm all morning in Daytona Beach.

Heavy wind and rains were pounding International Speedway Boulevard which leads to the iconic Daytona International Speedway, home of the Daytona 500.

The Daytona Beach Fire Department suspended emergency services because the strong and severe winds create too dangerous of a situation for emergency crews. People who are in need of emergency services are out of luck and will have to wait until it is safe for services to start back up.

A curfew is in effect until Saturday morning. Only a few cars could be seen out on the road on Friday morning. Police could be seen following behind some vehicles, making sure they arrived at their destination.
