Polk County schools closed Thursday, Friday

POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) — The Polk County School District announced schools will be closed Thursday and Friday due to Hurricane Matthew.

“We thank our parents, students, employees and their families for their patience as we continue to closely monitor Hurricane Matthew,” the district posted on Facebook.

As a reminder, Polk County Public Schools will have a regularly scheduled early dismissal on Wednesday, Oct. 5th because of teacher staff development.

“We know that the decision to close or dismiss early has a huge impact on the plans and lives of our students and employees as well as their families. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we evaluate the weather conditions.”

Schools may serve as shelters if necessary. Those announcements will be made via:

-Automated telephone calling system for parents and guardians
