TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) – Harvey Batt thought he would have been enjoying new windows in his home months ago. The Bradenton man paid half of the bill – $4,250 – in April, but no work has started at his home.
“I feel duped,” Batt said.
Batt and his wife chose Solar Shield Windows, based in Tarpon Springs, after friends recommended the company. Online reviews were good, too, and the company promised to install the windows in July. But work deadlines passed and excuses were made. Now, at the end of September, Batt is fed up.
Numerous customers called 8 On Your Side upset about their experiences with Solar Shield. Complaints streamed in for months, so Better Call Behnken paid the company a visit.
The showroom had been cleared out. 8 On Your Side did reach one of the owners, Jordan Richardson, by phone. He explained the company is closing. However, Richardson said all customers would be taken care of first.
Richardson declined an on-camera interview but sent this statement:
“Due to unfortunate financial set-backs in 2016, Solar Shield Windows is not taking on any new work and is solely focusing on completing every customer’s order. We are working with installation crews, as well as other window companies, to help handle the installations of these jobs and ensure every customer receives exactly what they ordered, including a proper installation. We understand it is frustrating and unsettling when a job takes longer than expected and we are working diligently to inform all of our customers of the status of their job and our efforts to get them finished. For any customer who has yet to hear from us, please expect a call in the coming week from Solar Shield to explain your status.”
