Petition drive underway to free ‘World’s Saddest Bear’

GUANGZHOU, China (WFLA) — A wildlife preservation group is trying to save a polar bear who is being kept inside an enclosure at a Chinese mall.

A video of a tragically sad looking polar bear featured in a mall display in Guangzhou, China has gone viral. Media outlets from around the world have dubbed Pizza “the world’s saddest bear.”

Animals Asia representatives said they are determined to free Pizza the polar bear from the Grandview Aquarium. After making worldwide headlines, a new home could be in Pizza’s future.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England is making a public offer to the mall. The wildlife park specifically created for polar bears said it would give Pizza a new home, but only if the Grandview Aquarium does not replace him with another animal.

“The good news now for Grandview is that they now have the chance to put their mistake right,” Animals Asia’s Animal Welfare Director Dave Neale said.

Animals Asia is gathering signatures on its online petition, which demands the aquarium to become closed.
