Investigators search for suspect who fought with Hillsborough deputy

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a dangerous criminal who fought with a deputy and then took off. It happened during a traffic stop just a couple of blocks from the sheriff’s office district one headquarters.

Deputy Steven Gutierrez  pulled over a couple for a seatbelt violation at the Stop and Shop store on 18th Street and 142nd Avenue in Tampa.

The passenger,  37-year-old Rodshee Rayford, got out of the car and struggled with the deputy. The whole thing was caught on surveillance video.

Deputy Gutierrez , who fractured his finger in the scuffle, deployed his taser, but it didn’t work. Rayford took off running and is still on the run as of Thursday night.

The deputy said he is glad things didn’t end up worse.

“Everything could’ve been totally different,” Gutierrez said.
