TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Tampa woman is at a hospital after injuring herself with a flare gun during a standoff with police, according to Tampa PD.
It happened on Idlewild Avenue around noon Sunday. Tampa Police responded to a report of a woman with a weapon on the roof of a house. The woman was threatening to harm herself.
The Tactical Response team arrived at the scene and officers negotiated with the woman for about two hours. A section of Idlewild Avenue was shut down and neighbors were evacuated.
She was armed with a flare gun and a rifle of some sort, police said.
At about 2:30 p.m. the 53-year-old woman injured herself with the flare gun. TPD officers quickly removed her from the rooftop and Tampa Fire Rescue firefighters treated her at the scene. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
