MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A woman was arrested for a fake bomb threat after Manatee deputies said she texted her next door neighbor that there was a bomb on his back lanai.
It happened after midnight Sunday on Bird’s Eye Terrace. Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a bomb threat. A resident reported that he got a text message from his neighbor that there was a bomb on his back lanai and it will detonate in an hour.
Deputies talked to the victim, Nicholas Riegel, 40, and his wife Melissa Riegel, 40, and started evacuating the houses in the area.
After the houses were evacuated, deputies went to talk to the neighbor who sent the message. Nuria Gursoy, 50, was escorted outside when she told the deputies the text was an empty threat.
According to MCSO, an E.O.D. canine was used to sweep the area for any devices and did not show any behavior changes indicative of an odor response on anything in the area.
Gursoy was arrested for a false report concerning planting a bomb.
