CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy ran the final Beat the Sheriff 5K Race Saturday in downtown Inverness.

Dawsy, who has run the race every year for the past 20 years he has been Sheriff, will officially retire in January.

This year, instead of running the race competitively, Dawsy enjoyed his final run surrounded by family and friends. The race raises money for Jessie’s Place, Citrus County’s Child Advocacy Center, of which Dawsy was board president until earlier this year.

The Beat the Sheriff Race is the longest running race in Citrus County, according to CCSO.
