ST PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — WFLA’s Lila Gross spent Friday night with Hootie and the Blowfish and we have all the exclusive details for you.
They’re known for their hits “Let Her Cry” and “Only Wanna Be With You,” but now, Hootie and the Blowfish want to be known for their beer.
The popular 1990’s band reunited Friday night at St. Pete’s Mahaffey Theater to put on a private show in conjunction with the launch of the band’s custom craft beer at Publix grocery stores in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Fans were so excited to meet Hootie and the Blowfish, so we filmed the meet and greet live for you, and WFLA Lila Gross even posed for a picture with the band. You can watch the whole meet and greet here.
Mark Zenow from Cord Management says the band agreed to perform this special concert at the Mahaffey Theater as part of the three-state rollout.
“This is a special opportunity to showcase the band’s beer and revisit the great songs that touched so many people,” Zenow said.
Hootie’s Homegrown Ale has been available for the past 18 months in draft form, but now the band’s brew is available in 12-ounce cans at select retailers in three southeastern states.
“Getting Hootie’s beer on grocery store shelves is a huge step for the evolution of our company,” said Founder of Rock Brothers Brewing Kevin Lilly. “Having a retail giant like Publix embrace this brand shows the quality of our product and the interest in our band beer platform.”
Rock Brothers Brewing has created craft beers for the past three years with other bands including, Have Gun Will Travel, JJ Grey & Mofro, Umphrey’s McGee, 311 and recently, Rebelution.
You can find Hootie’s Homegrown Ale at Publix, Total Wine & More, The Brass Tap, World of Beer retail outlets, Luekens Liquors, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, Whole Foods and The Fresh Market.
The lucky concertgoers won tickets to the private show through a contest put on by Rock Brothers Brewing but we also live-streamed the concert just for you, and Hootie and the Blowfish nailed it! Check out all of WFLA Lila Gross’s favorite songs here.
