SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) – Sarasota Police officials announced the results of an investigation conducted between April and September this year. The investigation dubbed Operation ‘Fresh Start’ lead to 35 arrests.
The 35 suspects arrested had a combined total of 327 felony convictions before the operation.
During the operation, undercover detectives bought drugs from street-level dealers on the streets of the city that are highest in drug crimes. The suspects were arrested on various charges including Sale of Heroin, Sale of Rock Cocaine, Sale of Rock Cocaine within 1,000 Feet of a Park, Church and Public Housing and Sale of a Controlled Substance.
The charges of Sale of Rock Cocaine within 1,000 Feet of a Park, Church and Public Housing carry a three-year minimum/mandatory sentence.
Two people are still wanted: Cordarryl Rogers, 28, and Glenford Bryan, 29.
Three other suspects have been offered the opportunity for the deferred prosecution through the Sarasota Police Department Drug Market Intervention (DMI) program. They have qualified for deferred prosecution because they have no previous crimes involving violence or firearms.
