HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A 9-year-old boy was killed Thursday afternoon in a six-vehicle Hernando County accident.

The little boy of Riverview was in a vehicle with his family, including a 5-year-old girl. They were traveling northbound on I-75 in the inside lane.

Traffic had slowed and in some places completely stopped because of another crash northbound on 75, troopers said.

Gregory Andriotis, 33, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Genesis northbound. Troopers said Andriotis failed to slow down and collided with the Scherers’ vehicle ahead of him. That caused a chain reaction. In the end six vehicles were involved.

The boy died at the scene. The 5-year-old girl and two adults in his vehicle suffered serious injuries.

Andriotis also sustained serious injuries. No one in the other four vehicles was hurt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Charges are pending, troopers said. Alcohol is not believed to have been involved, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
