Restaurant Ratings Most Violations: Aug. 29 to Sept. 2

(WFLA) —– State inspectors temporarily closed three Tampa Bay eateries from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, 2016. We’ve listed the restaurants that were closed below, along with details about what inspectors say they found.

Golden Corral located at 4705 US Hwy 98 N. in Lakeland

Aug. 31, 2016: Restaurant temporarily closed with 18 violations

  • Condensation or other drainage not disposed of according to law.
  • Observed leaky ceiling during rain on cook’s line and dry storage area; leaks through vent hood lighting fixtures over cooking equipment; glass bulb covers holding water; leaking over food preparation counter and bakery.
  • Observed baked potatoes stored on shelf in standing water from leak above; leaking on grill while cooking sausage; water leaking into fryer; food in dry storage also exposed to leak from ceiling.
  • Stop Sale Order issued due to adulteration of food product. Observed food stored in a location that is exposed to splash: baked potatoes stored on shelf in standing water from leak above.
  • Objectionable odor in dish area.

Sept. 1, 2016: Restaurant reopened with no violations

Frank’s Diner located at 16103 US 19 in Hudson

Aug. 31, 2016: Restaurant temporarily closed with 16 violations

  • 30 rodent droppings found in dry storage, most hard and dry, a few soft.
  • Evidence of chew marks on 8 coffee creamers.
  • Rodent rub marks present along walls and ceilings.
  • 1 live roach found on a table next to a fryer.
  • 1 live roach found on the wall by a fryer.
  • 1 live roach found on the floor in front of the dish machine.
  • 3 live roaches found on the wall by the dish storage area.
  • 1 live roach found on a chemical bucket.
  • 3 live roaches found on the floor in the walk-in cooler room.
  • 1 live roach found in the dry storage area by the bathrooms.

Sept. 1, 2016: Restaurant reopened with 4 violations

Lins Garden Chinese located at 11237 Causeway Blvd. in Brandon

Aug. 31, 2016: Restaurant temporarily closed with 14 violations

  • Raw sewage on the ground: toilet in restroom overflowing onto floor of restroom.
  • An employee was preparing food but was not wearing a hair restraint.
  • Grease interceptor/trap overflowing onto floor/ground.
  • Grease trap overflowing in kitchen area, observed employees walking through water and grease creating a splash.
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food: raw shell eggs stored over star fruit in walk-in cooler.

Sept. 1, 2016: Restaurant reopened with 2 violations

The following Tampa Bay restaurants received the most violations during inspections conducted from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, 2016.

Nickels Diner located at 6403 Massachusetts Ave. in New Port Richey, 36 violations

  • Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found.
  • An employee was preparing food, but was not wearing a hair restraint.
  • An employee failed to wash their hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food.

Potbellies Family Restaurant located at 3826 S. Himes Ave. in Tampa, 35 violations

  • Evidence of employee smoking in food preparation, food storage or warewashing area: ashtray and cigarettes on table in prep room.
  • Food-contact surfaces not sanitized after cleaning, before use: do not use equipment/utensils not properly sanitized.
  • Observed 6 dead roaches in the back room.

Yummy House Chinese Cuisine located at 2202 W. Waters Ave. in Tampa, 33 violations

  • 1 large dead roach found by dry storage rack cleaned at time of inspection.
  • Employee preparing food in customer section of dining area.
  • Stop Sale Order issued for food being prepared outside: bok choy drying outside after being washed.

Rocky’s Philly Cheesesteak & Hoagies located at 7286 SR 54 in New Port Richey, 28 violations

  • Slicer blade guard soiled with old food debris.
  • An employee was preparing food but was not wearing a hair restraint.
  • Case/container/bag of food was stored on the floor in a dry storage area.

Nikkos Fine Food located at 4603 N. Florida Ave. in Tampa, 26 violations

  • Employee cracked raw shell eggs and then handled ready-to-eat food and/or clean equipment or utensils without washing hands.
  • Employee with no hair restraint while engaging in food preparation.
  • Food stored in reach-in freezer and reach-in cooler not covered.

Rossi Ristorante Italiano located at 7254 SR 54 in New Port Richey, 26 violations

  • Employee handled soiled dishes or utensils and then handled clean dishes or utensils without washing hands.
  • Slicer blade guard soiled with old food debris.
  • Employee with no hair restraint while engaging in food preparation.

Sam’s NY Pizza located at 4351 Gunn Highway in Tampa, 25 violations

  • Employee with no hair restraint while engaging in food preparation.
  • Encrusted material on can opener blade.
  • Interior of reach-in cooler soiled with accumulation of food residue.

New Shanghai Chinese located at 6133 SR 54 in New Port Richey, 25 violations

  • Employee touched soiled surface and then engaged in food preparation, handled clean equipment or utensils, or touched unwrapped single-service items without washing hands.
  • Non-food grade containers used for food storage in direct contact with food.
  • Non-food grade bags used in direct contact with food
