Boy, 9, suffers Volusia County’s 9th shark bite of 2016

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WESH) —A 9-year-old boy was bitten by a shark off New Smyrna Beach over the weekend — the ninth shark bite reported in Volusia County this year.

The boy, who was visiting the area, was holding a boogie board and standing in about 4 feet of water when he was bitten.

He said he never saw the shark, but he certainly felt it.

The boy suffered four deep puncture wounds to the bottom of his right foot, and the skin of his shin was torn to the bone.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment and will survive.
