As more Zika cases reported in Florida, Poison Control Centers to help with virus hotline

(WFLA) – The Poison Control Centers will assist the Florida Department of Health in managing the state’s Zika hotline.

In February the Florida Department of Health created the hotline to answer questions about the virus. Now staff members from the Poison Control Centers are stepping in to help.

Health professionals handle calls to the hotline.

“As new, non-travel related cases of the Zika virus are announced, millions of Floridians are becoming increasingly concerned about accessing available prevention and treatment options,” officials from Florida’s Poison Control Centers said.

A total of 732 cases of the Zika virus have been reported in Florida, officials said.
