BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) – An employee at a jewelry store Westfield Brandon mall suffered life-threatening injuries while trying to stop a man who stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
Detectives with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office say the thief stole $24,000 worth of jewelry from Mirage Fine Jewelry in Westfield Brandon Mall and then took off running. Detectives say it happened Tuesday at 7:11 p.m.
A store employee chased the thief and grabbed the hood of the suspect’s car, then hung on until he was thrown from the vehicle at the intersection of Brandon Boulevard West and Brandon Town Center Drive. The employee, who has not been identified, suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital.
On Wednesday, Mirage Fine Jewelry remained closed and the shelves were empty as detectives visited other stores in the mall looking for surveillance video from other mall stores, trying to get a better look at the suspect, who stole a necklace and bracelet.
Detectives say the suspect is driving a silver, newer, 2-door Chevrolet Camaro. He is described as a black male who is 25 to 30 years old and is 6′ 1″ tall. He has a trimmed beard and was wearing a dark blue hat, black t-shirt, dark long pants and black shoes.
The vehicle was last seen getting onto Interstate-75 in Brandon.
Anyone with any information reference the suspect is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
