HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A large home in Masaryktown is destroyed by a massive fire overnight.
Hernando County Fire Rescue crews responded to a report of a fire at 15500 Wilson Boulevard at approximately 12:40 a.m. Sunday.
When the fire crews arrived, the home was fully involved. They began a coordinated fire attack with three fire engines, one ladder truck, two rescues, two water tankers and two battalion chiefs with a total of 19 personnel. The crews had to deploy water tankers because there were no fire hydrants in the area.
The residents who lived in the house, a man and a woman, evacuated the home safely. Nobody was injured.
Due to the large size of the structure and debris, fire crews continue to work on the scene with heavy equipment to fully extinguish the fire, according to HCFR.
The home was a total loss. The cause of the fire was not readily determined by fire crews on scene and is under investigation. The Florida State Fire Marshals’ office was contacted. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
