LUTZ. Fla. (WFLA) – An alligator hurried across the roadway in Lutz and its sprint was caught on video.
Our viewer Shauna Wells Rhodes shared this video with us on Facebook. She said it was taken near Sunlake Boulevard heading into Stonebrier.
The alligator can be seen on video running across the road towards a pond. The reptile looks to be large in size.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s website, the alligator’s ground speed has not been precisely measured. Gators only run trying to escape threatening situations and will not run after prey on land. It is a myth that you need to run in zig zag, trying to escape a gator lunging at you. Running in a straight line away from the predator will work, according to FWC.
