LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who carjacked a woman in a restaurant parking lot early Sunday morning.

Investigators say the carjacking happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of the Bonefish Grill, located at 225 Pipkin Rd. W. in Lakeland.

The woman was in her car preparing to leave the parking lot when a male approached the driver-side window with what appeared to be a chain wrapped around his hand. The man demanded that she get out of the vehicle.

The woman got out and the man drove away in the westbound direction on Pipkin Road.

Investigators say the car, which was a Toyota Avalon, was later found crashed and burned at the intersection of West Pipkin Road and County Line Road.

Investigators believe it was a crime of convenience and the woman was not targeted for a specific reason. The suspect was walking through the parking lot, saw an opportunity to steal a car and took it.

The suspect is described as a white male with a slim build who is 5′ 8″ tall and was wearing a dark t-shirt, shorts and a ball cap.

If you have information that can help investigators, call PCSO Detective Music at 863-298-6921.
