Goody Goody opens Tuesday in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn will help open the new Goody Goody Tuesday morning. Mayor Buckhorn and Richard Gonzmart of the Columbia Restaurant Group will officially open the restaurant around 6:45 a.m.

Goody Goody first opened in 1925 and was a central part of Tampa’s food scene before it closed in 2005.

Original recipes will be offered at the new restaurant, including fries, shakes and pies. That includes the well-known butterscotch pie. Goody Goody was known for its POX burgers. Those burgers came with pickles, onions and a secret sauce.

Pancakes, egg dishes and breakfast sandwiches will be offered in the morning at the new restaurant. In addition, Salisbury steak, open-face turkey sandwiches, frankfurters and meatloaf will be offered for lunch and dinner.

The original Goody Goody restaurants were drive-ins or drive-thrus, but the Hyde Park site will include table service. The new Goody Goody is located at 1601 W. Swann Ave.

The restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
