ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) —A teenager was hospitalized Tuesday after a lightning strike outside The First Academy in Orlando, authorities said.

Orlando Fire Rescue said a 14-year-old was standing in a parking lot near Bruton Boulevard when lightning struck a tree.

The school sent a memo to parents that said a student was injured during the lunch hour. The note to parents did not mention how the student’s injuries were sustained.

The teenager was transported to Arnold Palmer hospital in stable condition. School officials said the student was responsive.
