RIO 2016: WFLA Paul Ryan in Rio, Day 13

Paul Ryan reporting from Rio.

(WFLA) — News Channel 8’s Paul Ryan is in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics. He wants to show you what it’s like there. He’ll be snapping photos and shooting video of the people he meets and the places he visits.

Trayvon Bromell is a 21-year-old from St. Petersburg (Gibbs HS). He is one of the best track athletes in the world, and will likely medal in Rio. The video is of his heat in Round 1 of the 100m. Bromell coasted to a time of 10.13 seconds, finishing second in his heat and qualifying for tomorrow night’s semifinals.

It’s also worth noting: Tampa resident Emil Milev finished 12th in the qualifying rounds of the 25-meter rapid fire pistol. Only the top-6 made the final, so his 6th Olympiad is over.

Clearwater’s Paige Railey finished 25th and 4th in her two laser radial races today. She finished 10th in the qualifications standings BARELY making Monday’s medal race (top-10 qualified). Barring a major disaster, she won’t be medaling, however.

Clearwater’s Paige Railey on making the laser radial final: “It’s a shock… I’m happy that the American flag will be in the medal race.”

Paul said on Twitter:

“St. Petersburg’s (Gibbs H.S.) Trayvon Bromell finished 2nd in his 100m heat (10.13 seconds), qualifying for tomorrow night’s semifinals.”

“Clearwater’s Paige Railey finished 25th and 4th in her 2 laser radial races today; she’s 10th, barely qualifying for Monday’s medal race!”

“Lutz resident Tianna Bartoletta finished the 100m semifinal in 11 seconds flat; the 9th-best time. Top-8 advanced to final. Heartbreaking.”
