Hillsborough wrong-way drivers arrested on DUI charges

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Law enforcement officers arrested two wrong-way drivers for on charges of drunk driving on Hillsborough County roadways Friday night and Saturday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, Friday night, Yadixa Rodriguez, 45, of Thonotosassa, was driving west in the inside lane of Hillsborough Avenue near Benjamin Road. Her Nissan Altima veered to the left crossing over the median into the eastbound lanes. She continued going west in the eastbound lanes meeting the traffic head-on, veering to avoid collisions. Troopers said the woman hit a Traffic Control Signal in the center median at the intersection with Benjamin Road.

While trying to avoid another crash, the Nissan struck the back of a BMW that was stopped in traffic. After that, Rodriguez struck a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help her out of the car.

She was arrested and charged with DUI with Property Damage, Refusal to Submit to Lawful Test, and Battery.

Early Saturday morning, another driver Bruce Fernando Green, 58, of Tampa, was going south in the northbound lanes of State Road 589. He passed a Tampa Police cruiser and the officer conducted a traffic stop. Green was arrested for DUI.

Mr. Green posted a bond of $500 and was released just after 3 pm. He has four prior arrests in Hillsborough since 1996 including domestic battery, aggravated battery and burglary.
