ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – While many homeless children in St. Petersburg just need clothes to wear, the St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Shelter is hoping to prepare students to head back to school by stocking them up with items to prepare them to head back to class.

The shelter is in desperate need of school supplies following an increase in the number of homeless children living in the shelter. Shelter organizers say some of the children have no school supplies ahead of Wednesday’s first day back in the classroom.

The shelter is asking anyone who can help to call 727-823-2516 or drop off your extra supplies to their District Office at 384 15th Street North any day this week between 8:30-4:30 p.m.

The food pantry is also critically low on canned and boxed food. Pantry officials are looking for canned meats, vegetables, pasta and non-perishables.
