PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (WFLA) – That’s a lot of pens and pencils! Pinellas Park charities, residents, businesses, city employees, council members and clubs donated over 1000 pounds of school supplies that were distributed at the Back To School Family Fun Day.
The community gathered Sunday at the Pinellas Park Performing Center to distribute more than 400 backpacks stuffed with the supplies. More than 700 adults and children came to enjoy the vendors, snacks, and indoor games.
“I was pleasantly surprised by the turn out despite the rain,” Holly McWeeney, a representative for the Pinellas Park Chamber of Commerce, said. “We were happy to host an event that helped students prepare for the up and coming school year. We could not have done it without the help of the community. I am grateful to the businesses who contributed to this event which included New Hope Auto and Truck Services, Grow Financial Credit Union and Walmart.”
Pinellas County students go back to school on August 10. You can find all the information you need for the first day here.
