Boy, 12, among victims in Manatee double murder-suicide

BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) —  The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday identified the man suspected of killing a 12-year-old boy and a 50-year-old woman before killing himself.

Detectives say Galo Felix Caballero-Rivereo, 49, killed his girlfriend Odalys Martinez-Castiles, age 50, and her grandson Zakyel Hernandez, age 12, and then killed himself.

The bodies were found on Monday at a home on 38th Avenue West, following an anonymous tip to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office has not released a motive for the killings.

Caballero-Rivereo was arrested on a battery charge in 2010. Detectives say in 2010, Martinez-Castiles filed a domestic violence injunction against Caballero-Rivereo. In 2012 a court dissolved the injunction.

News Channel 8 talked to neighbors who say they have often heard arguing at the home, and the sheriff’s office confirms it responded to a domestic violence call in 2009.

Neighbors say Zakyel appeared to be well taken care of, and liked to play kickball. His murder comes less than 10 days before the start of the new school year.
