Boxer Claressa Shields aims for another Olympic gold

Like all Olympians, boxer Claressa Shields had a dream to win a gold medal, except hers came after she actually won it. She’ll wake up in Rio this week, trying to do it again.

“I had a picture of the gold medal on my phone. I had that as my screensaver just to keep me focused on what i was there for. To actually see the gold medal, and to actually touch it, i just couldn’t believe it! I was going crazy. I was losing my mind. I really wanted to stay up there stand professional, but i just couldn’t. I just got to shaking and holding the medal and grabbing it. I feel like it was unreal,” Shields said.

The Opening Ceremony for the Rio Olympic Games can be seen August 5 on News Channel 8. News Channel 8’s Paul Ryan will be in Rio with live reports during the Olympics, which run from Aug. 5 – 21.
