Florida Senate race heats up before Aug. 30 primary

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – There is another controversy on the Democratic side of the ticket for Florida US Senate seat. Congressman Alan Grayson is now disputing claims by his ex-wife that the congressman assaulted her during their marriage. She claims Rep. Grayson battered her for two decades although he strongly denies the claims.

The allegations led two liberal groups to withdraw their support for Congressman Grayson. It’s the latest controversy on that side of the ticket. Last month, Congressman Patrick Murphy had to dispute reports that he embellished his resume.

“The Democrats can recover. Democrats vote for Democrats, Republicans vote Republican…Trump is not going to push Rubio across the board, so Rubio is going to have to do it on his own. If Trump really under performs in Florida it could cost Rubio the races,” said democratic strategist Barry Edwards.

Tampa Bay area businessman Carlos Beruff is trying to put up a fight on the Republican side against Senator Rubio.

“He has not spent enough money. Rick Scott spent $73 million in his election for Governor. Beruff has spent between $8 and $10 million there’s a lot to go and he only has 30 days to do it.  So Marco Rubio is going to be the Republican nominee and Patrick Murphy nominee and who wins is going to depend on how Hillary and Trump perform at the top of the ticket,” added Edwards.
