Motorcyclist killed in crash on Courtney Campbell Causeway

The crash occurred Saturday night in the westbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The westbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway are back open early following a fatal motorcycle crash.

The crash happened Saturday just before 9:30 pm. According to TPD, two motorcycles were involved. One of the drivers was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The other driver was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Investigators say the male driver passed the female driver and shortly thereafter lost control of his motorcycle and went down. The female driver attempted to avoid hitting him but she too lost control and crashed. Their identities have not been released.

Police say the DOT had to make repairs early Sunday to one lane (the inside lane, west of the boat ramp) due to damage to the road as a result of the crash.
