The incident occurred on Sunday, June 26th, 2016.

RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WFLA) – A 26-year-old Hillsborough County man injured during a shootout with deputies responding to a domestic violence call last month has died.

Jamil Alejandro Valladares passed away at a local hospital Sunday morning. He had been under medical care since his arrest June 26 on two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were dispatched to Grovedale Circle in Riverview just after 1 a.m. on the day of the incident. When they arrived they were greeted by the victim – 24-year-old Krista Kariema Wong.

She told deputies that Valladares had pulled her hair and ripped her bathrobe during a fight. Wong’s mother arrived to help her daughter and while she was getting some items from her vehicle she saw the suspect at the front of the building.

Wong also told deputies that Valladares may be in possession of a handgun. The deputies encountered the suspect outside the residence and as they approached him he became verbally aggressive. He placed his right hand into his pants pocket to pull out his handgun.

When the two deputies observed Valladares raise the weapon they fired in his direction. He was hit several times and his vehicle was also hit several times.

The suspect’s weapon was recovered next to him and two spent shell casings were discovered nearby.

The two deputies remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
