Teen injured after brother’s gun discharged

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A 16-year-old boy is at a hospital after his brother’s gun accidentally discharged when the two were wrestling, according to St. Petersburg Police.

It happened Thursday after 11 p.m. at the brothers’ home located on 44th Street South. The brothers, 16 and 22 years old, were wrestling. During the match, the older brother’s handgun, tucked in his waistband, discharged, police said.

The 16-year-old was struck by a bullet on his left side.

The older brother took him to the Bayfront Health to treat the gunshot wound.

SPPD Major Crimes detectives responded to the report of the shooting. They determined it to be accidental.

The older brother has a valid State of Florida concealed firearm license, police said.

The teen is at the hospital in stable condition.
