Woman dies in shooting outside Tampa home

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hillsborough County deputies are investigating after two people were shot in the 1500 block of Wishing Well Way in Tampa.

Detectives say both victims — a man and a woman — were taken to local hospitals, and Banesa Martinez Herrera, age 30, of Tampa, died as a result of her injuries.

Deputies responded to the scene around 2 a.m. Thursday. Colonel Donna Lusczynski says the victims were standing outside the home having a party or bar-b-que when they were shot. The suspect then fled the scene.

Lusczynski says it’s believed the shooter knew the victims, and there is no danger to the community. It’s unclear what the relationship is between the victims, or the shooter and the victims, however Lusczynski said “there was a relationship between the female victim and the shooter.”

The male who was shot is hospitalized and is expected to survive, authorities said on Thursday afternoon. His identity has not been released.
