Suspect in stolen truck rams Melbourne officer

MELBOURNE, Fla. (WESH)—A 26-year-old man faces an attempted murder charge after authorities said he drove a stolen pickup into a Melbourne police officer.

The truck was reported stolen out of Rockledge, authorities said.

Around 1 a.m. Monday, police said, Octavius Weaver drove away from a traffic stop and hit the officer as he tried to avoid stop sticks.

Officers then surrounded the truck, which ended up rolling over

The officer who was struck, Weaver and a passenger were all taken to a hospital.

Weaver faces a charge of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
