This past Mother’s Day, the restaurant chain CPK held a contest asking guests to submit their wish for their moms. The “Dear Mom, for you, I wish” contest ran from April 29 to May 21, garnering emotional tributes to moms across the country. Out of 1,500 entries, a Tampa-area native, Sarah Brennick, was declared the winner of the $4,000 prize. She chose to donate the money to A Kid’s Place of Tampa Bay on behalf of her late mother, Amelia Anne Ferranto. A Kid’s Place is a non-profit organization that provides foster care and a loving home for abused, neglected, or abandoned children.
Here’s Sarah’s wish submission:
“First, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for taking in numerous foster children when you already had two babies of your own and your own infant nephew that you were raising. Thank you for making the decision to keep me and adopt me as your own, even though I was one of three foster babies that you had at the time. I wish you were still here to meet your grandsons. Your son, Sam, & his wife had their first son one month after you passed. We know that you are his guardian angel. They had their second son two years later. Fast-forward 13 years, I now have two of my own. I find myself repeating your words numerous times a day and I often quietly laugh to myself. My wish for you, to honor your memory, would be to donate whatever prize there is to the local Foster Home here where I lived, in your name. I volunteer there on a monthly basis and, just like you, I want to take them all home with me and take care of them. Your heart was so large and so nurturing, and I thank you for giving me this life of mine that I am so happy in. I miss you Mom. Although, I know you are with me in my heart.“
