ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Petersburg police on Wednesday arrested the teen who they say punched and carjacked a woman at a WaWa gas station and then drove over her foot as he took off with her vehicle.
Late Wednesday night, members of the newly-formed H.O.M.E. (Habitual Offender Monitoring Enforcement) Unit located and arrested the 16-year-old suspect. He will be charged with carjacking.
Police say the woman’s vehicle has not been found.
Investigators say the carjacking happened at 11:15 a.m. on Monday at the WaWa located at 2465 22nd Ave. N. A 54-year-old woman was putting air in her car’s rear left tire when the boy got into the car on the driver’s side.
When the woman confronted the teen, they had a physical altercation and he punched her. The woman fell back onto the pavement and the suspect drove over her left foot as he stole the car and left the area.
A nearby surveillance camera recorded an image of the teen as he rode by on his bicycle just before the carjacking. Police distributed the photo to media with the hope of catching the teen.
