Gas leak that caused evacuation in Clearwater capped

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – A gas leak caused an evacuation of three homes in a Clearwater neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

It happened near Harbor Passage and Snug Island on the Island Estates. The call about the leak came in at about 3:44 p.m., according to the city officials. A 2-inch gas pipe was ruptured during a bridge construction project at the location, Rob Shaw with the city of Clearwater said.

Three homes have been evacuated. The leak was capped by about 5 p.m.
