TRINITY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pasco County teen is accused of a disturbing crime. detectives say he raped a 3-year-old child at a daycare operated at his home.

Lucius Isaiah Gibson, 16, known as Isaiah to friends, is accused of inserting his penis into the mouth of the child at his mother’s in-home daycare, Thomas Gibson Family Day Care.

The alleged abuse happened during nap time, documents from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office show.

The details of the case are so disturbing and so unthinkable, that those who hear the facts have a visceral reaction. They wince. They make faces. Some look down and sigh.

Neighbors who live near the in-home daycare in Pasco County were stunned when they learned what was allegedly going on behind closed doors. People describe it as the kind of crime that “makes them sick.”

The home where the sinister case allegedly occurred is located in an idyllic location, which would never call attention to anything out of the ordinary. The house is located in an upscale Trinity neighborhood where well-manicured lawns and fluffy palm trees dot the landscape. The neighborhood showcases large two-story homes with a family-friendly atmosphere. No one here ever thought horrific child molestation was going on nearby.

A young man who lives across the street, who asked not to be identified, spoke highly of the suspect’s parents. Gibson is their only child.

The mom’s daycare passed an inspection as recently as April.

“I can’t believe it. That’s not like them at all. They’re such nice people, such a nice family. I was going to help Isaiah get in shape for football. This is horrible,” the neighbor said.

What documents say about the crime

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office documents say the teen used nap time because it was a moment when the children went unsupervised.

The case began recently with 3-year-old victim. That child told her parents what happened.

“When you talk to 3-year-olds, they know it happened. Some tell you what they got for Christmas. We believe the child, that this occurred,” Major Mel Eakley from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said. “The child explained it to us; difficult, though, to pinpoint a time frame.”

“The little girl was asked to draw with the suspect’s penis looks like … Even if it was during nap time, these children still should have been supervised,” Major Eakley added. “It’s very concerning that something like this could have taken place.”

Investigators said four children, both boys and girls, were molested by the teenager. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is considering filing neglect charges against teen’s mom.

Other parents who had children at this daycare are asked to come forward with any pertinent information.

Gibson had a detention hearing Wednesday afternoon. A judge ruled the 16-year-old would be held for another 21 days during the investigation. Meanwhile, the daycare has been shut down for 90 days.

Major Eakley offered advice for parents. “It goes back to, you’ve gotta have a watchful eye. So make sure you know who your daycare provider is. Make sure you do your homework, who your child will stay with, whether it’s a private in-home daycare or a daycare that’s a chain daycare, or a daycare that’s been in existence for  20-something years,” he said.

This is not the first time this daycare has been investigated. In 2013 Pasco detectives checked out similar accusations involving a toddler at the same daycare. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says investigators called the Child Abuse Hotline.

The case was not prosecuted because investigators did not feel they had enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. “We did everything that we could so I can’t go back and say that if X would have happened, this would have never occurred. I don’t think it would be fair to the profession, that had we done something, this would not have happened,” Major Eakley said.
