ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A tortoise found at Sawgrass Lake Park with swastikas painted on its shell, has been cleaned off and put back in it’s habitat.

Staff at the park found the tortoise over the weekend.

Someone painted three swastikas on its shell with a white correction fluid that’s used to cover typos and ink marks on documents.

Pictures of the tortoise surfaced on Facebook over the weekend.

The tortoise also appeared to have a crack in its shell, but officials believe the injury is old.
