THONOTOSASSA, Fla. (WFLA) — The owners of a Thonotosassa business called Lightning RV are relieved that no one was injured when lightning hit the building multiple times, starting a massive fire on Monday night.

Brad Green and his wife, Becky, feel blessed, even amidst the destruction. “This could have been a lot worse. No one was hurt, and we are grateful,” Brad told WFLA.

The longtime business owners of Lightning RV were in South Carolina for a family reunion when they got the devastating news Monday night.

The call came at around 8:30 p.m. that their Thonotosassa warehouse, full of RV supplies, had been struck by lightning not once, but three times. The fire, he was told, was massive.

“In 22 years, we’ve never seen anything like this. Again, we feel blessed that no employee was hurt, no firefighter was hurt. This is stuff. It can be replaced,” Brad added.

The three-alarm fire kept Hillsborough firefighters busy for hours, as the large warehouse was engulfed. Brad and Becky drove all night to get back to Hillsborough County. When they arrived, what they saw took their breath away – a heaping pile of snarled debris with melted, twisted metal piled high on scorched earth.

“Hard to believe that lightning struck Lightning! We will rebuild,” said Brad. “We are just so blessed today that no one was hurt. We have a generator. We have a great team, great employees. We told them not to worry.”
