LARGO, FL (WFLA) – Check out almost any public area in Tampa Bay, and you’ll see hoards of people playing PokemonGo.
“I mean it definitely appeals to the child in me because I’ve been playing for longer than I can remember,” Joe Andre said .
PokemonGo uses your phone’s GPS to place creatures. You flick a ball to capture them in real time.
“Anyone can do it. It’s very easy to play. Anyone can pick it up and just install it. It’s free,” D.J. Manello said .
Despite sweltering temperatures, we found dozens playing at Largo Central Park, including a group of employees. Besides enjoying the game, players get to meet people.
“It’s really just pretty neat that a game would bring a lot of people together like this,” Morgan Magias said.
Plus, you get more than just exercise for your thumbs. “It gets you more active. I think that’s the goal of this game. It’s really fun,” Mike Warshowsky said .
Play well, and you get rewarded.
“There’s gems where you can battle other Pokemon, other people’s Pokemon if you level up so, there’s that too so, winning,” Morgan Senn said .
Be warned, playing Pokemon Go can be a drain on you and your phone.
“It’s not consuming my life. But it is consuming my batteries,” Alex Rivas said .
This game is part of a set of games based on “augmented reality.”
The stock of the maker, Nintendo, surged 25 percent in Tokyo trading today.
