Lightning strikes start fire at Thonotosassa warehouse

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. (WFLA) – A three-alarm fire damaged a warehouse in Thonotosassa Monday evening after a line of storms pushed through Tampa Bay area.

The fire happened at the Lightning RV supply company located on Harney Road. Firefighters from Hillsborough and Pasco counties responded to the scene to find smoke and flames shooting through the roof of the 10,000-square-foot building.

According to the Hillsborough fire officials, there were propane tanks and chemicals that clean and service the RVs in the building.

Firefighters had the fire under control in a few hours.

Fire investigators say the fire was caused by lightning strikes. They are looking at surveillance video from the business and weather reports to determine the exact time of the strikes.

An employee of Lightning RV was on scene and advised he heard a loud boom. When he went outside to see what it was, he saw the area around the meter on fire and called 911.

No injuries were reported.

The warehouse is said to be a total loss.
