PITTSBURGH (WFLA) — Emergency responders in Pittsburgh were very busy during a Kenny Chesney concert over the weekend. Paramedics treated 99 people and transported 37 others to local hospitals on Saturday.
A majority of those who were taken to hospitals were treated for intoxication or intoxication-related injuries, according to a WPXI report.
Some concertgoers were hauled off to jail, arrested on charges of trespassing, ticket robbery, simple assault and public intoxication. Others were cited for underage drinking.
Police managed to keep the peace.
“I’m really really pleased, very proud of the way the officers were able to maintain public order, despite an incredible amount of alcohol being consumed,” Pittburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay told CNN affiliate KDKA.
The 55,000 fans left quite a mess. Crews cleaned up more than 40 tons of garbage.
This was not the first Pittsburgh Kenny Chesney concert to make headlines. More than 70 people were arrested at a 2013 concert and concertgoers left more than 30 tons of trash.
This year, garbage bags were handed out to patrons, which helped alleviate problems with trash.
