WATCH: Gator climbs fence at Florida golf course

FORT MYERS, FL (WFLA) — Caught on camera: An alligator was seen climbing over a fence with ease at a Fort Myers golf course, leaving many residents who live nearby frightened.

The gator seen at Hideaway Country Club is estimated to be about eight-feet long. Video captured by a patron of the country club shows it climbing over the chain-linked fence, even going right through the barbed wire at the top.

People who live near the golf course say they are terrified after seeing the video – including one dog owner.

“I’m afraid if the alligator is out, he can come running after it because he is a small dog,” said Carol Huttenhoff, who lives near the golf course in Fort Myers.

Disney recently said they will install fences around their lakes, after an alligator attack claimed a life of a little boy. But it’s clear that might not stop gators from getting to the other side. Disney says they’ll also add alligator warning signs and educate guests on gator activity.
