TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The driver who hit a biker on the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa was charged with DUI Manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
The motorist, William B. Matthews, was driving under the influence and hit a bicyclist, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. That 67-year-old motorist was traveling southbound in the outside lane, troopers said.
The bicyclist, John Brennan, 44, was traveling southbound in the shoulder, according to FHP.
Matthews, in a 2016 Toyota Camry, entered the shoulder and hit Brennan, troopers said. Brennan died at the scene.
Matthews, from Bay Harbor Island, did not stop, according to FHP. He went southbound on I-275 and was stopped by troopers on Ulmerton Road.
