Tampa Police conduct mock rescue

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Tampa Police Department is spearheading a mock joint air and water rescue, for the National Homeland Security Conference.

Many of Tampa’s elite agencies are joining forces to host this demonstration including, the Tampa Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, Hillsborough County Sheriff Office, Pasco County Sheriff Office, Citrus County Sheriff Office, Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough Fire Rescue.

Members of these agencies’ Special Operations units will gather in the Hillsborough River in front of the Tampa Convention Center on their stage, which is actually a Starship cruise vessel.

The demonstration will showcase specialized training and resources, which ensure Tampa Bay law enforcement to be prepared for any joint-response situation, involving the waterways.

For this reason, the waterways surrounding the Convention Center will be closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members can expect to hear some noise and see a law enforcement response during this time as well.
