Music rocking, rainbow flags flying at St. Pete Pride events

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) – The music is still rocking and the rainbow flags are still flying at St. Pete Pride on Saturday, but those 49 people who lost their lives in the Pulse nightclub shooting nearly two weeks ago are on the minds of many here.

“I actually told someone I work with, ‘Hey you know, if anything happens, at least I am with the person that I love. You never know. Anybody could be targeted after what happened,” said Bella Chamorro.

Law enforcement will be out in full force at every event this weekend, providing a sense of security for those celebrating life and love with pride.

“We are not afraid of who we are. It lets us shine knowing we are safe and that we can do what we want and be who we want to be,” said Skylar Davis, who is attending St. Pete Pride for the first time this weekend.

The Orlando massacre not only devastated the city of Orlando, but those all across Florida.

The healing process after the tragedy has really just begun and it has changed this community forever, but the smiling faces here in St. Pete are a good reminder that love always wins.
