THE VILLAGES, Fla. (WFLA) — Deputies say a Sumter County man was drunk when he fired 33 rounds into the home of a woman who he was infatuated with.
Howard Sparber, 69, of The Villages, is being held without bond in the Sumter County Detention Center.
Deputies responded to the woman’s home on Landale Loop in The Villages. They say Sparber shot into the woman’s home in an attempt to get inside. No one was home at the time.
The fired rounds went through the storm door, the front door, the foyer and into kitchen cabinets and their contents. The shooting caused $3,000 in damage to the home.
Neighbors were inside their homes and heard the shots being fired. Deputies say they went outside and confronted Sparber, who was still holding the firearm – a Sig Sauer 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Sparber was arrested at the scene. Deputies say he had two empty magazines; one had a 15-round capacity, the other had a 20-round capacity.
The victim told deputies that Sparber had been harassing her since November of 2015. She said he had made sexual propositions to her and had previously pointed a firearm at her, making her fear for her life. She told deputies she took steps to avoid Sparber when he repeatedly approached the residence trying to contact her.
Sparber is charged with armed burglary, aggravated stalking, shooting into a dwelling and criminal mischief.
